Campus Mompiano, via della Garzetta 48, Brescia
The aim of the course is to bring together people from different scientific backgrounds to learn about and discuss an advanced topic in Mathematical Physics. The course consists of 12 lectures, each approximately one hour long, and the overall format is very informal.
Abstract of the course
Viscoelastic fluids are ubiquitous in technological applications since this class of materials includes most aggregates of long polymeric molecules, possibly in solution with simpler fluids.
The main challenge for their mathematical modelling come from the transient and deformation-dependent elastic response that is observed in several experiments.
In these lectures, we will first review the standard measurements used to characterize viscoelastic fluids and then discuss classical and more recent continuum mechanical models for these materials.
Finally, some issues related to the mathematical analysis of the associated differential equations will be introduced.
