Summer school on combinatorial geometry and optimisation 2004

The Department of Mathematics and Physics of Università Cattolica, the Mathematics Seminar of Brescia and the Mathematics Department of Università degli Studi di Brescia, within the MIUR COFIN 2004 research project Strutture Geometriche, Combinatoria e loro Applicazioni, coordinated by G. Lunardon and supported by G.N.S.A.G.A. organise a Summer School on Combinatorial Geometry and Optimisation to be held in the week of the 4th of July.

The courses are aimed towards people conducting or interested in research on the topics; in particular, it is designed for graduate students and young researchers.

This edition of the school preserves part of its original format on topics in combinatorial geometry, but it also wants to show how several remarkable problems on discrete Optimisation may be studied with geometrical techniques.

The school will be held in Brescia, at dipartimento di Matematica dell'Università Cattolica in Via Musei 41.

The courses shall be as follows:

1. Dirk Hachenberger (Universität Augsburg), New developments in the theory of linear integer programming;
2. Hans Havliceck (Technische Universität Wien), Divisible designs, Laguerre geometry and beyond;
3. Andrea Lodi (Università degli Studi di Bologna), Problems and applications in combinatorial optimization.
4. Momme Thomsen (Universität Hamburg), Nearrings and designs

There shall also be some short seminars on related topics.
All lectures will be in english.

People attending the school will be hosted at Centro Pastorale Paolo VI, via Gezio Calini 30, Brescia. Full board accomodation from Sunday the 4th till Saturday the 10th will cost 280 Euro per person in a double room and 340 Euro per person in a single one. It shall be possible to cover living expenses for a short number of participants.
